2312. The United States is not the same as we knew them before. After a devastating fourth world war agains China, the United States joined with Canada and Central and South America to become Illea- Giant Country, divided by the 35 provinces, and managed by the monarch.
The previous government had destroyed society in ruins, the monarchy introduced a rigid caste system designed to bring life back to order. The population is divided into 8 castes. Each caste has its own number. First- royals. Eighth- mentally ill, the homeless and criminals. The vast majority of the population is between them.
Caste determines your status in society and your profession. Like modern India, each with their birth belongs to caste, which is almost impossible to change.
As in his “Hunger Games,” the future stern but fair. Slow technological development and slow population growth provide less pollution. In Illea grass brighter sky is clue and water is cleaner. The technology is available to the highest castes.
Even a few generations after the war, most of Illea agree to give up freedom in the name of peace.
Several post-war generation, most illiantsev (?) agree to give up freedom for the sake of peace.
But those who reject the caste system; who reject the monarchy; who want freedom at any cost.Nomadic warrior, these rebels who have dedicated their lives in the name of freedom. In order to disrupt a stable position in the monarchy, the rebels conspire in order to destroy the traditions Illea that have remained unchanged for two hundred years.
When the Prince comes of age, each young woman in the country, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five years, irrespective of caste, are invited to participate in the lottery, Lucky one of thirty-five selected provinces come to the palace that will fight for the prince.
This is called the selection.
